Pippin Headcanons: Dark Side

My theory is that Leading Player is the same person/entity as Mr. Dark from Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes, AND Professor Screweyes from the otherwise inane We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story, AND The Showman from Alice Cooper’s album/comic book with Neil Gaiman The Last Temptation. And this entity is satanic in nature. (I mean, duh.)

Think about it. Leading Player is probably thousands of years old and can look like anyone. He/She’s been doing this a long time. In all those other stories the ‘show’ the character puts on differs slightly, but it always has a circus ‘feel’ and it serves the exact same purpose- to give lonely people what they most desire(in We’re Back they weren’t getting wishes granted but they came to the show because they wanted to get scared) and in return, the leader of the show is somehow feeding off or gaining power from the energy/life of the people who get duped. I don’t seriously think this of course, but it’s certainly an interesting idea.

What if the leading player’s show is like the one in Something Wicked This Way Comes, and certain people who get suckered in end up becoming part of the show? The 2013 revival made me think of this so that’s what I’m basing these statements on: Maybe Catherine was a woman who wanted her husband back…so Leading Player made her play the role of the woman who falls in love with Pippin in the show and she gets to fall in love again…and lose the guy again (fire),over and over.

Maybe Berthe was a woman who didn’t want to get old, and the leading player’s kept her there a long time(like hundreds of years) and her punishment is that she’s bored with her long life (“When you’re as old as I am…and I hope you never are”) because she has to do the show over and over.

Now, what about Charlemagne? Perhaps he was a man who wanted to be great and didn’t reach his full potential, (he’s aware he’s an actor, he refers to himself as such) so Leading Player gave him the chance to ‘become’ a great historical figure….who reveals himself to be a barbarian, a fool, and an unfit leader, who gets killed by his son. Again and again and again.

Jillykins (Treeon-Knees) and I were discussing our videos and we hit upon some strange notions of head canon(these are NOT to be taken seriously at all except in our weird Pippin-as-domestic-sitcom universe) like…

Charles calls his wife ‘Fassy” which she hates (so he does it a lot)

Their marriage, if unhampered by mores of the time, would have broken up long ago but the sex was DYNOMITE. (This is canon, right? It’s all subtext)

Charles THINKS he’s the best dad ever but when instructing Pippin, it goes into TMI territory more often than not.

Pippin honestly tried to be a good bro when they were kids, but thanks to Mom, Lewis was having none of this. Still, Pippin would feel bad if anything actually happened to Lewis.

Pippin’s dad and grandma still treat him like he’s 5 sometimes (and Berthe did the same to her son)

Lewis went walking in the woods and was abducted by a strange woman (or was it a man?) who invited him to ‘frolic’ with some promiscuous circus folk. They mistook him for his half-brother(and they ALL said “Say hi to your grandma for me!” )…he didn’t return home for 3 days but Charles didn’t go looking for him (“He’ll find his own way home. That’s SURVIVAL, Pippin.”) Upon returning home, Lewis had a dose of the clap and a tattoo of a scorpion on his upper right thigh. He could not remember getting either one.
